- Job Development
- Kim Lane shared information about the new Dollar tree store opening in Suisun near Raley’s. Applications were being taken today at the store form 9:00 – 5:00. She was not sure when the store would be opening.
- Greg Hisaka asked if we have problems with too many agencies contacting the same employers in our area. A discussion followed with several members commenting on how this does happen sometimes in Solano County, but one of the main purposes for our group to meet regularly is to share what job development activities have occurred within our agencies. We try to work together to avoid this situation. There was also discussion regarding WorkAbility I programs coming together to share what employers are being used as training sites in each city.
- Jaime brought up the idea that had been introduced at a previous meeting to design a matrix that would contain information about employers alredy have a working relationship with an agency/program. The matrix would contain information about who at the agency could be contacted if a job developer would like to get more information about a company that is already working with someone. The challenge with this is keeping it updated and how it would be disseminated, possibly on our website with password protection.
- Community Outreach/Buddy Walk Funds
- Alicia Miller and Jamie Johnson have clients who need CA ID cards ASAP so they can start working. Both requests were approved for $23.00 each and Cheryl gave checks to Alicia and Jamie, who will submit receipts.
- Employer Recognition
- Members discussed employers who would be recognized for hiring this past year. Some members submitted completed forms and others were given forms to complete and return. All requests must be filled out and submitted to Jaime either by fax or email by Sept. 17th, 2008. Alicia will send out an email to all members with this information. The Mayors’ Committee will create certificates that will be signed by the mayors and hand delivered to the employer by the person who submitted the request. Jamie will bring the certificates to the next meeting on Oct. 14th which will be at SCOE. It is requested that they be picked up that day. A Mayors’ Committee pin will also be given to those who are delivering employer certificates.
- Transportation issues
- The next STA (Solano Transportation Authority) Paratransit Council Committee will be on September 19th in Dixon. George Bartolemew is the chair of that committee, but he has not been able to attend our meetings on a regular basis. Jamie will attend the next STA meeting and report back to the Mayor’s Committee.
- There is information on how to obtain free bus passes on the STA website.
